What does this test do?

This test gives a more detailed picture of thyroid function. It looks for immune-mediated causes for thyroid diseases. This test examines your thyroid function and helps you determine whether your symptoms are caused by a disorder, such as an over-active (Hyper) or under-active (Hypo) thyroid.

Here’s our article where you can learn more about these tests.

What symptoms might you have?

Hypothyroidism: If you have hypothyroidism, your thyroid gland is not producing enough hormones. This can lead to symptoms such as fatigue, weight gain, constipation, dry skin, thinning hair, joint pain, depression, and cold intolerance. You may feel tired and sluggish even after a good night’s sleep, and find it difficult to lose weight despite a healthy diet and exercise routine. Your skin may be dry and itchy, and your hair may feel brittle and thin. You may also experience muscle aches and stiffness, as well as difficulty concentrating and remembering things.

Hyperthyroidism: If you have hyperthyroidism, your thyroid gland is producing too much hormones. This can cause your metabolism to speed up and lead to a range of symptoms, including weight loss, increased appetite, nervousness, anxiety, tremors, sweating, heart palpitations, diarrhoea, and heat intolerance. You may find it difficult to gain weight despite eating regularly or eating more, and may feel anxious or restless much of the time. Your heart rate may be faster than usual, and you may experience palpitations or arrhythmia. You may also feel warm or hot, even when others around you feel comfortable.
